Nampa, ID Outdoor Lighting: Light Trespass & Shielding (2026)

Nampa City Code § 10-1-9.B, the general performance standards section applying citywide, states exterior residential lighting 'shall be shielded, screened, or shuttered and shall be directed so as to prevent direct illumination of adjoining properties' -- covering security lights, floodlights, and other fixtures on homes. The same chapter separately regulates commercial and industrial lighting for glare on highways and neighboring property. Where a parking lot for a nonresidential use shares a boundary with residentially zoned land, § 10-22-5.J requires illuminating devices to be shuttered and directed so light shines away from, or minimally impacts, the adjoining residential property. There's no permit or wattage cap -- shielding and direction are the standard.
