Forsyth County, GA Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

16 of the Unified Development Code sets a default rule for unincorporated Forsyth County: no junk vehicle can be parked or stand on any property unless it fits one of five narrow exceptions. First, it can be located away from public view from any property line. Second, it can sit on property zoned and permitted by the director for an automobile wrecking business or junk yard. Third, it can be on the premises of a lawfully operated business enterprise if the vehicle is necessary to that business, or on property whose primary use is vehicle repair, remodeling, or reconditioning under other provisions of the code.

Fourth, junk vehicles used for training by the Forsyth County Board of Education or a state-licensed proprietary school are allowed, as are wrecked vehicles that police or insurance investigators need to leave in place, or move to another location, for inspection after an accident. Fifth, farm vehicles or farm machinery on a working farm are exempt outright. 16. 17, applies the same public-nuisance language to junk yards that aren't screened by a solid wall, planted screen, or similar opaque partition at least 6 feet high.
