East Baton Rouge Parish, LA Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Title 12 (Nuisances), Chapter 7 of the City-Parish Code governs abandoned, inoperative, dismantled or wrecked vehicles on private property. An inoperative vehicle is one incapable of being lawfully moved on the streets; lacking current registration, inspection sticker or plate alone does not make a vehicle inoperative if it otherwise complies with Louisiana law. After the enforcing agency serves notice (personally, by certified mail, or by posting), the owner or occupant has 15 days to abate the nuisance by removing the vehicle or beginning repairs, which must be completed within 30 days. If ownership is unknown, the agency advertises in the parish's official journal for 15 days before taking possession. State law RS 32:471+ provides parallel removal authority.
