On private property, Polk County's Health Nuisance Regulation makes it a nuisance to store any unlicensed, unsafe or inoperable boat or motor vehicle outdoors outside an enclosed building. Code enforcement typically issues a 30-day courtesy letter, then a 21-day abatement notice; unresolved violations are abated by the County with costs assessed to the property.
Nuisance violation is a misdemeanor; County may abate and assess removal costs against the real estate. Abandoned vehicles impounded under 321.89 are sold/scrapped if unclaimed after 10 days.
