NRS 487.281 makes it unlawful to abandon a vehicle on any public highway or road, or on public or private property without the owner's consent. NRS 487.210 defines an 'abandoned vehicle' on private property as one the owner discarded or that is not reclaimed by the registered owner or lienholder within 15 days after notice under NRS 487.250. For street abandonment the Washoe County Sheriff's Office dispatches a representative to tag the vehicle with a 72-hour warning notice, then verifies whether it moved and may submit it for towing. Separately, keeping more than two unregistered, unusable vehicles on residential property is barred by NRS 487.290.
Unlawful abandonment under NRS 487.281 is a misdemeanor (NRS 487.300). Tagged street vehicles that are not moved within 72 hours may be towed at the owner's expense.
