Under Oklahoma Statutes Title 47, Section 1131 and Tulsa Title 37, a vehicle is presumed abandoned if left on a public street for more than 72 hours, on private property without owner consent for 48 hours, or stored on residential property in inoperable or unregistered condition for more than 7 days. Tulsa Code Enforcement and Tulsa Police may tag and tow abandoned vehicles. Owners are responsible for tow and storage fees, and unclaimed vehicles may be sold at public auction after statutory notice.
Oklahoma Statutes Β§47-1131 defines an abandoned vehicle as one left unattended on public property over 48 hours, on private property without consent over 24 hours, or that is wrecked, dismantled, or inoperable. Tulsa Title 37 supplements this with a 72-hour public street rule and authorizes the Tulsa Police Department to mark vehicles with a tow warning sticker. After the warning period, vehicles are towed to a licensed wrecker yard. On private residential property, Title 24 (Nuisances) prohibits storing inoperable, wrecked, or unregistered vehicles in public view for more than 7 days unless inside a fully enclosed structure. Code Enforcement issues a 10-day Notice of Violation; failure to remove triggers administrative tow and a lien on the property for abatement costs. Owners receive notice via certified mail and Department of Public Safety records check; unclaimed vehicles after 30 days may be sold at public auction with proceeds applied to towing and storage charges.
Civil/administrative penalty under Title 24 and Title 37: $100β$500 plus tow ($150+) and daily storage ($25β$40/day). Failure to abate after notice: lien against the property. Repeat offenders may face misdemeanor charges under state law.
