Aiken County, SC Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 11 first bars any automobile, truck, or trailer without a required current license plate from being parked or stored on residentially zoned land in the RC, RM, RD, and OR districts unless it sits inside a completely enclosed building; an unregistered vehicle can't simply sit in the driveway or yard. For working vehicles, an owner or occupant may keep one licensed commercial motor vehicle with a carrying capacity of no more than two tons, but no commercial utility trailers or larger trailers such as tractor-trailers are allowed in those residential districts at all.

The ordinance then names a specific list of vehicles that are barred from parking in those residential districts entirely, including the street right-of-way, whenever the vehicle isn't actively involved in commerce specifically related to the needs of that residential area: flat-bed trucks, tow trucks, buses, dump trucks, tanker trucks, other trucks carrying hazardous or toxic materials, and tractor cabs or trailers in any combination. A narrower exception lets trailers, implements, and equipment used for commercial purposes be parked or stored on the same lot as a dwelling in these districts, but only inside a completely enclosed building where such buildings are otherwise allowed under chapter 24, meaning open-air storage of that equipment isn't permitted even under the exception.
