Thurston County, WA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 21.57.060(C)(2) of the zoning code governs vehicle storage in residential districts countywide. It allows operable motor vehicles, trailers, boats, and recreational vehicles, a category that covers work trucks and other commercial vehicles, to sit on a residential lot with no permit, size cap, or hour restriction. The only conditions: the vehicle can't obstruct the public right-of-way or block traffic visibility, especially at intersections, and it can't be used as living quarters. Inoperable or junk vehicles fall under a separate 30-day outdoor limit with mandatory 6-foot screening under subsection (C)(1).
