Reno prohibits overnight parking of commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs or longer than 22 ft on residential streets. Semi-trucks and heavy equipment must be stored in industrial zones.
Reno Municipal Code restricts parking of commercial and oversized vehicles in residential zones. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over 10,000 pounds, or with commercial signage, or longer than approximately 22 feet, may not be parked on residential streets overnight (typically 10 PM to 6 AM). Semi-trailers, detached trailers, dump trucks, tow trucks, and construction equipment are considered commercial and must be stored in appropriately zoned locations. A limited exception allows short-term loading and unloading. Commercial vehicles under the weight threshold (pickup trucks, small work vans) with company signage are generally allowed for an employee to park at their residence. Industrial zones along East Fourth Street, Mill Street, and the Reno-Tahoe Industrial Center accommodate commercial vehicle parking. Federal FMCSA hours-of-service rules apply to interstate truckers, and truck idling over 15 minutes is restricted under Washoe County air quality rules.
Oversized vehicle in residential zone: citation and tow. Repeat offenders: escalating fines. Excessive idling: Washoe County Air Quality Management fines.
