Maui County, HI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

110(A) lists thirteen specific roads where no truck, bus, tractor, tractor-semitrailer, or tractor-trailer combination, or any other vehicle rated over 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, may operate: stretches of Waiko Road, Kauhale Street, Baker Street, Nakoa Drive, Oluloa Drive, Naniloa Drive, Halenani Drive, Kainani Street, Okolani Drive, Haulani Street, Front Street between Puamana and Shaw Street, Vineyard Street, and Makaala Drive. These are largely residential corridors near Wailuku, Kihei, Lahaina and Pukalani where heavy through-traffic would otherwise cut past schools and homes. Subsection B carves out three exceptions so the rule does not stop essential local service: public or private refuse trucks, school buses and government-funded transit buses, and any vehicle actually delivering materials or services to a residence or location inside the restricted stretch may still use the road.

The restriction targets weight and vehicle class, not local deliveries, so a moving truck serving a house on Vineyard Street is exempt while the same truck merely passing through is not. The rule has been amended repeatedly since 1986 to add streets as new subdivisions sought relief from cut-through heavy traffic, most recently in 2014.
