Myrtle Beach Code Sec. 12-92 prohibits stopping, standing or parking alongside any curb painted yellow, and at any place where official signs prohibit stopping, standing or parking. Only official traffic-control devices, markings and painted curbs installed or authorized by the city carry legal effect; the city manager may mark any location to prohibit parking where it would create a safety risk (Sec. 12-95). Vehicles must also park within any lines or designations marking a space (Sec. 12-89). A resident painting a curb in front of their home does not create an enforceable no-parking zone. In the unincorporated county, curb and pavement markings on state-maintained roads are controlled by SCDOT and state law.
