Chatham County, GA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Savannah Code Sec. 8-1003 defines an established driveway as an open, notorious pathway routinely used for ingress and egress between private property and the public right-of-way, surfaced with solid or pervious pavement, pavers, contained gravel, stone or another City-authorized material. Soil is not an allowed front-yard driveway surface except as the parallel tire paths of a ribbon-strip driveway. Driveways connecting to a street must include a curb cut and driveway apron meeting City design standards (Sec. 4-1002 and 4-1003). Vehicles must sit on this surface, enclosed in an accessory building, or in a screened side/rear yard. Unincorporated county and other cities set separate driveway rules.
