Floyd County, IN Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Chapter 153's driveway permit provisions apply countywide outside the City of New Albany and the Towns of Georgetown and Greenville, under authority the Board of Commissioners exercised through the Indiana Code. 18 fixes the physical standards a driveway must meet. 18(B), a driveway must have a back-out area with a turning radius of at least 90 degrees. 18(D) requires a minimum width of 24 feet at the point where the driveway meets the public road, along with an unobstructed sight distance of 300 feet at that location.

18(E) requires a leveling area at the intersection appropriate to the site's topography and caps driveway slope at 10%. 18(F) requires the driveway to be set back at least five feet from adjoining property lines. 18(C) further requires a sight visibility triangle at intersections in which structures, trees, non-agricultural vegetation and signs cannot be placed or allowed to grow between three and eight feet high. 18(I) requires shared driveways to carry a recorded maintenance agreement binding future owners. 18(K), with the applicant covering any engineering review cost.
