When you park a boat, RV or trailer on a residential lot, LDC Sec. 218 requires the driveway to stay functional and the parking must be in addition to the two required off-street parking spaces. Vehicles may not encroach onto the public right-of-way.
Polk County's LDC does not prohibit ordinary driveway parking, but Sec. 218.C provides that when boats, RVs, sport vehicles or utility trailers are stored on a residential lot, 'the driveway to the residence remains functional, and the parking of such vehicle is exclusive of the required two parking spaces on the lot.' Sec. 218.D bars any such vehicle from encroaching into a public right-of-way; loading or unloading in the right-of-way is capped at one hour per 24-hour period. Driveway construction, width and access connections are separately regulated under the LDC and county access-management standards.
Handled by Code Enforcement under the Special Magistrate Ordinance; blocking required parking or the right-of-way can trigger daily fines until corrected.
