Garfield Ordinance No. 2937 amends Chapter 341 zoning to require safe installation of electric vehicle supply equipment and Make-Ready parking spaces.
Ordinance No. 2937 amended Part II, Chapter 341 (Zoning), Article XI, Parking Spaces and Loading Berths, to incorporate Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. The ordinance promotes adoption of electric vehicles by setting standards for the safe and efficient installation of EVSE and Make-Ready parking spaces through municipal parking regulations. It aligns Garfield with the New Jersey statewide EV framework while addressing locally adopted requirements such as zoning treatment, location, and parking space designation for EV infrastructure in new developments.
Noncompliant developments may be denied zoning approval or certificates of occupancy until EVSE and Make-Ready requirements in Chapter 341 are satisfied.
