Mahwah implements New Jersey's mandatory model EV ordinance through Section 24-3.10 of its zoning code, treating Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment and make-ready parking as a permitted accessory use in all zoning districts.
Section 24-3.10 of the Mahwah zoning chapter governs publicly accessible Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and make-ready parking spaces. New construction and certain redeveloped projects must include a minimum number of EVSE and make-ready spaces consistent with the statewide model ordinance, and EVSE installations require electrical permits through the Mahwah Construction Department. Signage, accessibility, and parking-space counting rules follow the New Jersey model standards.
Failing to install required EVSE or make-ready spaces during qualifying construction, or installing chargers without electrical permits, can result in zoning enforcement and stop-work orders.
