3 of the Land Use and Development Code, adopted by Ordinance No. 1123 on October 3, 2023, requires EV-readiness rather than installed chargers. Subsection B applies to new construction of detached and attached single-household dwellings with garages and multi-household dwellings with garages: each such building must provide a 240-volt, 40-amp outlet on a dedicated circuit within five feet of the designated vehicle parking space, sized to accept the future hardwire installation of a Level-2 charging station for every vehicular parking space on the lot. Subsection C extends the requirement to new parking surface areas serving multi-household dwellings and nonresidential development, which must provide the electrical capacity to accommodate future Level-2 charging stations at a rate of one charging-capable space for every ten required on-site parking spaces; any lot with fewer than ten required spaces is exempt outright.
