Passaic County, NJ Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

The Park Property Ordinance's electric-vehicle provision reads: "Electric vehicles must be actively charging when parked in an authorized charging space. " In practice this means a charging space at a county park, golf course or other county-controlled facility is reserved for vehicles that are plugged in and drawing power, an EV owner cannot occupy the spot after charging finishes, and a gas-powered vehicle or an EV that isn't charging can use the space only briefly, for 15 minutes, and only to drop someone off or pick them up.

This section is printed as "Section 46" in Article II of the 2025 revision, immediately following the unnumbered tobacco/cannabis/hookah provision and the mobility-device provisions in Sections 40-45. The rule applies wherever the County has designated a charging space, consistent with Article I, Section 1(b)'s statement that the ordinance governs all park property, golf courses, facilities, parkways and playgrounds owned, leased, maintained or controlled by Passaic County. Article I, Section 1(c) sends enforcement of any park violation, including a charging-space violation, to the Municipal Court having jurisdiction over the municipality in which the park sits, and the ordinance's general penalty section exposes a violator to up to 90 days imprisonment or a $200 fine, or both.
