Clayton County, GA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Code Sec. 62-204(e)(1) makes it unlawful for anyone to permit or cause any commercial vehicle to be parked or stored in a commercial or office-institutional zoning district unless one of three conditions applies: the vehicle is actively loading or unloading with the driver present, the vehicle is owned by or used by a business located on the property, or a business on the property is conducting operations connected to that vehicle's use. Where a commercial vehicle is parked under any of those three conditions, the ordinance requires it to park only in areas designated and posted as loading zones and/or loading docks, meaning general customer parking spaces do not qualify even for a business-owned truck.

Sec. 62-204(e)(2) adds a separate, absolute rule on top of the loading-zone requirement: using a loading zone or loading dock for sleeping or overnight parking is strictly prohibited, regardless of whether the vehicle otherwise satisfies subsection (e)(1). Two narrow carve-outs apply elsewhere in the section: truck rental, leasing or sale facilities operating in GB or LI districts are not subject to subsection (e) at all under Sec. 62-204(e)(3), and hotels and motels can let registered, overnight guests park a commercial vehicle in a marked truck space under Sec.

62-204(e)(4), though only the tractor cab of a tractor-trailer can be parked that way and the hotel cannot act as a routing agent for the vehicles. Separately, Sec. 62-204(e)(5) allows overnight commercial vehicle parking or storage in warehouse and industrial districts, and in GB or LI districts under the rental-facility exception, while parking on vacant commercial property remains prohibited without a community development permit.
