In Myrtle Beach, a designated loading zone may be used only for the expeditious unloading, delivery, pickup or loading of material during the hours the loading rules are in effect. Passenger zones are limited to loading and unloading passengers. Parking for any other purpose is prohibited.
Myrtle Beach Code Sec. 12-87 restricts loading zones and passenger zones. No vehicle may stop, stand or park in a loading zone for any purpose other than the expeditious unloading and delivery or pickup and loading of material during the hours the loading-zone provisions apply. Passenger zones are reserved for the loading and unloading of passengers. Commercial trucks are exempt from meter payment while actually loading and unloading, but must use a center lane rather than the curb where one exists (Sec. 12-134), and a truck idle beyond active loading is in violation. Bus stops and taxicab stands (Sec. 12-88) are similarly reserved. Unincorporated county roads follow state law.
Misusing a loading zone is a Myrtle Beach civil parking offense starting at a $30 courtesy amount, escalating with a $30 late charge after 30 days and possible impoundment.
