Tehama County Code Chapter 11.26 lets the Tehama County Transit Agency designate bus loading zones in the unincorporated area, approved by the Board of Supervisors under California Vehicle Code Section 22500(i). The Director of Public Works paints the red curbs and installs the bus-stop signs and shelters.
The county's express loading-zone provision is Chapter 11.26, 'Bus Loading Zones.' Section 11.26.010 delegates to the Tehama County Transit Agency the responsibility to designate bus loading zones in the unincorporated area for loading and unloading passenger buses operating as commercial carriers, following the agency's bus-stop standards and procedures. Those zones must be approved by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 22500(i), and the Director of Public Works is authorized to paint red curbs and install bus-stop signs, benches and shelters; the cost is borne by the Transit Agency. Outside of designated bus loading zones, the county does not maintain a general network of commercial or passenger loading zones on rural roads; loading and standing on public roads otherwise follow the California Vehicle Code, including the prohibitions in Section 22500 and the local no-parking segments listed in Chapter 11.12. In the towns of Gerber and Los Molinos, on-street parking layouts (angle or parallel) are set by Chapter 11.12. Drivers should treat any red-painted curb as a no-stopping zone. For new or modified bus stops, the Transit Agency and Public Works are the responsible offices.
Stopping or parking in a designated bus loading zone or at a red curb violates Vehicle Code Section 22500(i) and the county's Chapter 11.26 designation, and the vehicle may be cited and towed.
