Lake County, IN Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

UDO 154-13-140 requires that off-street loading areas be designed so that all vehicle maneuvering and loading/unloading operations occur on private property, prohibits loading areas in any street yard, and requires the same surfacing as parking areas. The county does not run curbside loading-zone permitting for public streets: that is a municipal function inside cities and towns. Off-street parking spaces themselves 'may not be used for the storage, display or sale of goods equipment or materials,' and no motor-vehicle repair is allowed in a parking space (154-13-100.B), so a business cannot convert parking stalls into a de facto loading/storage yard.
