Kent County, MI Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Kent County does not impose an overnight on-street parking ban; each municipality decides. The prevailing pattern is a seasonal winter prohibition to keep streets clear for plows. As a representative example, the City of Kentwood prohibits street parking from 1:00 AM to 8:00 AM between November 15 and March 15 each year. Grand Rapids achieves the same effect through its November 1-April 1 odd-even program, requiring vehicles to change sides by 1:00 AM. Outside winter, some communities allow overnight parking while others restrict it or require permits, so check your city or township code. In county parks, overnight parking is separately barred by park hours (see park curfew). On state highways, overnight stopping follows the Michigan Vehicle Code and MDOT.
