Burlington County, NJ Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Rule 2 of the Burlington County Parks System Rules and Regulations, adopted by the Board of County Commissioners and most recently amended April 23, 2025 by Resolution No. 2025-00249, sets the operating window for every County park, trail and natural resource area: open at approximately 7:00 AM and closed at approximately one-half hour after sunset, using the National Weather Service's Mount Holly-area sunset time, unless the Board permits otherwise. Because that closing time governs the entire property, not just buildings, a vehicle left in a County park lot after closing sits in a park that is legally closed, and Rule 14 separately requires that vehicle parking stay in designated parking areas only, so cars cannot simply be pulled onto grass or trail edges to wait out the night.

The Board also reserves the right to limit or close any park, or a specific area of it, early whenever necessary for management, safety or public welfare, which can move the overnight cutoff earlier on short notice, such as during storm cleanup or the deer management season. Overnight camping is separately barred: Rule 18 forbids camping or erecting a tent, shelter or camp, defining 'camp' to include bedding or sleeping bags left to provide a place to sleep during non-business hours, closing the loophole of sleeping in a parked vehicle overnight.

Anyone who remains in a County park after the posted closing time is treated under Rule 36 as failing to abide by Board-posted conditions; Rule 37 makes violators of any Parks System rule disorderly persons who will be escorted from the park, and Rule 38 escalates a refusal to leave into prosecution as a defiant trespasser to the fullest extent of the law.
