Dearborn allows overnight on-street parking in most residential areas except during snow emergencies or where signs prohibit it. Commercial lots may restrict overnight use to customers only.
Dearborn does not impose a citywide ban on residential overnight on-street parking, unlike some Metro Detroit suburbs. Residents and their guests may leave passenger vehicles on the street overnight provided the vehicle is legally registered, displays current plates, is not blocking a driveway or fire hydrant, and does not violate any posted sign. Snow emergencies declared by the mayor or public works director can impose a temporary overnight ban on designated snow routes, with vehicles subject to ticket and tow. Private commercial parking lots (grocery stores, apartment complexes) may post their own overnight restrictions enforced by the property owner. Apartment and condo residents should consult HOA or landlord rules for assigned parking. Vehicles left on a public street for more than 48 hours without moving may be tagged as abandoned under MCL 257.252.
