St. Tammany Parish, LA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 24-29 makes it unlawful for any person or entity to park or abandon a vehicle on any public street, highway or roadway for longer than 48 consecutive hours. S. 32:1711 et seq. The sheriff's office notifies violators according to state law, and the parish supplies serially numbered triplicate forms for citing violators to appear on the charge, with disposition of impounded vehicles governed by the applicable provisions of chapters 1 and 16 of title 32. This 48-hour rule is the general parish-wide standard; it sits apart from the tighter 24-hour rule in section 24-30, which applies only inside parish council district 13's named subdivisions (Eden Isles, Oak Harbor, Northshore Beach and others) and specifically targets boats with trailers, trailers, motor homes and vehicles over six feet wide, plus any parked vehicle that forces oncoming traffic to swerve or blocks sightlines at an intersection.

Outside district 13, the 48-hour ceiling in section 24-29 is what governs how long a vehicle, including one left overnight repeatedly, can sit on a parish street before the sheriff's office can order it towed.
