When official signs are posted giving notice thereof, no person shall park a vehicle in the same location for a period of time longer than 24 hours, unless otherwise provided by law, upon any of the streets within the city. A vehicle shall be deemed parked in the same location for more than 24 hours if the vehicle has not been moved within the prescribed time period based upon markings or other means as determined by a police officer or an authorized representative of the department of transportation services. Full Breakdown
On any street posted with a 24-hour parking sign, a vehicle that has not been moved, checked with chalk marks or other means an officer or transportation services representative uses, for more than 24 hours is in violation. The director of transportation services designates which streets carry the 24-hour limit only after holding a public hearing under § 15-3.1, so the rule is street-specific rather than a blanket citywide overnight ban.
Violations & Fines
Every additional three hours a vehicle stays parked past the 24-hour mark after the first citation counts as a separate violation, compounding the penalty for long-term overstays.
