Stafford County, VA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Stafford County's zoning ordinance regulates overnight parking through its off-street parking standards rather than a general on-street curfew for private cars. , excluding temporary loading. Section 28-102(9) then bars any use from putting a commercial vehicle in its own required parking spaces overnight, since those spaces are reserved strictly for motor vehicle parking, not storage or repair, unless the site is a vehicle sales facility or the chapter permits it elsewhere. Section 28-102(12) narrows overnight commercial vehicle parking countywide to truck/freight terminals and truck stops, and only allows commercial vehicle parking at all, beyond a use's required spaces, in agricultural, commercial and industrial zoning districts; fleet parking and other chapter-permitted exceptions still apply.

The rule reaches further in residential areas: tractor-trailers, tractor semi-trailers, trailers and truck tractors or cabs able to pull trailers are prohibited outright from parking or being stored in the R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 districts, unless a special exception predating the current rule was granted. Separately, Section 28-102(10) bars any vehicle covered by a legacy special exception from parking on any street or right-of-way, and on lots of an acre or larger keeps it out of the front yard setback. Together these sections push overnight truck and commercial-vehicle parking out of residential neighborhoods and into designated commercial, industrial and agricultural areas or dedicated terminal and truck-stop sites.
