Sutter County, CA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Sutter County's published Traffic Code does not impose a general prohibition on overnight parking on County roads; instead, the controlling time limit is Section 1120-120, under which no person may allow a vehicle to remain standing or parked on any County street, roadway, or alley for a period exceeding 120 hours (five days). Vehicles exceeding that limit may be removed in accordance with Chapter 10 of Division 11 of the California Vehicle Code. Overnight parking is therefore generally permitted on County roadways unless a specific stretch has been posted as restricted by the Board of Supervisors under Section 1120-100, or unless the vehicle falls under a separate prohibition.

Section 1120-060 prohibits parking a vehicle on any roadway for the principal purpose of displaying it for sale or of repairing it, except repairs needed in an emergency for a period not exceeding 24 hours. Levee roads are more restrictive: Chapter 1140 (Restricting Travel on Levees) prohibits parking on levees under Section 1140-010. Where the County operates parking lots on County-owned property, Section 1120-105 lets the Board set time limits, permit requirements, and posted restrictions. Because there is no countywide overnight ban, residents and visitors parking overnight should check for posted signs and the 120-hour cap on the same spot.
