Blaine's clearest oversized-vehicle rule is a weight cap: no vehicle in excess of 12,000 lb GVW is permitted in residential areas (Residential Guide to Community Standards). Large recreational vehicles must be currently licensed, operable, and parked on paved or setback-compliant surfaces. On streets, oversized vehicles are subject to the 48-hour limit and the winter overnight ban.
Blaine limits oversized and heavy vehicles in residential neighborhoods primarily through a weight restriction in the Residential Guide to Community Standards: no vehicles in excess of 12,000 lb (GVW) are permitted in residential areas. This keeps large box trucks, semis, and heavy equipment out of residential zones regardless of where they would be parked. Large recreational vehicles such as RVs and travel trailers are allowed but must be currently licensed and operable and must follow the residential parking standards: in the front yard and corner side yard they may be parked on paved driveways only; in the side yard they may be stored if the side-yard setback (three or five feet by district) is met; and in the rear yard on grass, currently licensed and operable RVs, trailers, and toppers are allowed if driveway setbacks are met. On public streets, an oversized vehicle is subject to the same Chapter 82 rules as any vehicle, including the 48-consecutive-hour limit and the November 1 to April 1 prohibition on parking from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Community Standards (763-785-6146) handles residential questions and complaints.
Keeping a vehicle over 12,000 lb GVW in a residential area, storing a large RV off a paved surface in the front yard, or violating setback requirements are violations. Oversized vehicles left on the street beyond 48 hours or during restricted winter hours can be ticketed and towed.
