Summary
Winnebago County limits where RVs, boats, and trailers can sit on a residential lot and bars them from the rear yard if you're driving a motor home.
If the recreational vehicle and/or trailer is not stored in a fully enclosed permanent structure, it must be parked or stored on the driveway -that is accessory to the primary residence on-site- when located in a front yard and when located in side and rear yards it must be at least three (3) feet from any lot line. Motor homes, however, are further restricted and shall not be parked or stored in the rear yard. In residential subdivisions, only two (2) noncommercial trailers may be parked or stored outdoors and each trailer must be twenty-two (22) feet or less in length.

Full Breakdown
Under the county's Unified Development Ordinance, a stored RV, boat, boat trailer, or travel trailer that isn't inside a fully enclosed structure must sit on the driveway if it's in the front yard, or at least 3 feet off the lot line if it's in a side or rear yard. Motor homes get an extra restriction: no rear-yard storage at all. Subdivision lots are capped at two noncommercial trailers, each 22 feet or shorter. The equipment must stay in good repair, be owned by an on-site resident, and can never be hooked up to electric, water, gas, or sewer or used for sleeping outside a licensed campground. Curbside parking in the right-of-way is capped at one 48-hour stretch per week.
Violations & Fines
Zoning enforcement can order noncompliant RVs, boats, or trailers relocated or removed; unresolved violations proceed as a zoning code violation subject to citation.
