Cherokee County, GA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 14-181(a) allows recreational vehicles and school buses to be parked or stored in an enclosed garage or carport in any residential district, and separately permits front-yard parking only if the vehicle sits more than 20 feet from the road right-of-way, capped at a total of two recreational vehicles or two school buses, or one of each together, on a single property. Subsection (b) allows unlimited placement to the rear and sides of a dwelling without the front-yard distance or count limits. Subsection (c) bars any permitted recreational vehicle from carrying attachments such as stairs, steps, handrails, porches or decks, closing off the practice of converting a parked RV into a semi-permanent living structure.

Subsection (d) extends the same 20-foot setback and two-vehicle cap to a vacant or unimproved residential lot, so an empty parcel cannot be used to stockpile RVs or buses beyond what an occupied lot could hold. These limits sit alongside § 14-183(e), which exempts school bus parking under § 14-181 from the county's separate ban on parking heavy or commercial vehicles on residential property, and § 14-184, which requires any manufactured home, modular building, rail car or shipping container placed on a property to meet all applicable county codes.
