On streets in unincorporated San Bernardino County, no vehicle may be parked or stored in one spot for more than 72 consecutive hours under County Code Section 52.0119. Beyond that, California Vehicle Code Section 22500 controls where stopping and parking are prohibited (crosswalks, driveways, fire hydrants and similar).
Street parking in the unincorporated County is governed by a combination of County Code Title 5 (Highways, Traffic) and the California Vehicle Code. County Code Section 52.0119, 'Use of Streets for Storage of Vehicles Prohibited,' bars parking a vehicle on a street or alley for more than a consecutive 72-hour period; a vehicle left longer may be removed consistent with the Vehicle Code. County Code Section 52.0120, 'Parking for Certain Purposes Prohibited,' restricts using public streets to park a vehicle primarily to advertise or display it for sale. Where the County has not adopted a specific local rule, California Vehicle Code Section 22500 supplies the baseline: it prohibits stopping, standing or parking within an intersection, on a crosswalk, within 15 feet of a fire-station driveway, in front of a public or private driveway, on a sidewalk, alongside another parked vehicle (double parking), and on bridges or in tunnels, among other locations. The County's basic 25 mph residential speed and general traffic rules also derive from the Vehicle Code. Because most unincorporated streets are not metered and lack posted time limits, the 72-hour storage rule and the Vehicle Code's location prohibitions are the primary day-to-day constraints.
A vehicle parked on a public street more than 72 hours may be marked and towed under County Code Section 52.0119 and Vehicle Code Section 22651(k). Parking in a prohibited location (crosswalk, driveway, sidewalk, fire hydrant, double parking) is a Vehicle Code Section 22500 violation subject to citation by the Sheriff's Department. Displaying a vehicle for sale on the street can be cited under County Code Section 52.0120.
