Fontana regulates on-street parking under FMC Title 10 and CVC 22500 and 22651. Cars cannot park at colored curbs, block driveways, or exceed the state 72-hour rule under CVC 22651(k).
Street parking in Fontana is regulated jointly by state law and the Fontana Municipal Code. Under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(k), any vehicle parked on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours may be cited and towed after a warning tag is affixed. Fontana Police and Code Enforcement both enforce this rule; the common complaint-driven practice is to chalk or photograph tires, wait 72 hours, then tow. FMC Title 10 restricts parking against red curbs (fire lanes), yellow curbs (loading only), white curbs (passenger loading 5 minutes), green curbs (short-term parking as posted), and blue curbs (disabled placard required). Vehicles cannot block a driveway apron, cross a sidewalk, park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, or stop within 20 feet of a crosswalk, per CVC 22500. Residential streets in much of northern and southern Fontana are unrestricted, but neighborhoods with narrow streets may have posted permit-only sections. Weekly street-sweeping days are posted on signs and parking is prohibited during the sweep window (typically 3-4 hour blocks). Fontana participates in the San Bernardino County Mosquito Abatement program so standing water in abandoned cars is also a Code Enforcement concern.
Parking citations range from about $54 for basic time violations to $100 for street-sweeping violations and $500 for fire-lane or hydrant violations. The 72-hour tow under CVC 22651(k) adds tow fees of $200 to $400 plus storage charges.
