Fontana, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 17-147 prohibits commercial vehicles, as defined by California Vehicle Code Sec. 260, that exceed a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds from stopping, standing or parking anywhere on a public street or highway. It separately prohibits trailers, as defined by Vehicle Code Sec. 630, that are designed or used for commercial purposes from doing the same. The ban does not apply while a vehicle is reasonably parked to deliver or collect goods or provide a service to a property on that block, to deliver material for permitted building repair, alteration, remodeling or construction on that block, at locations the city council authorizes and the public services director posts, or to vehicles a public utility owns and uses for constructing, installing or repairing its facilities, including those kept on-call for that purpose.

The current version of Sec. 17-147, enacted by Ordinance No. 1613 in 2010, replaced an earlier commercial-parking prohibition adopted by Ordinance No. 1431 in 2003. Enforcement runs alongside the city's general towing authority: Sec. 17-148 lets a peace officer, designated employee or trained volunteer tow a vehicle left standing on a highway for 72 or more consecutive hours, or otherwise illegally parked, under the parking-violation towing provisions of Vehicle Code Secs. 05.
