Fontana limits RV, trailer, and boat storage under FMC Title 17. Long-term street storage is prohibited; RVs on private property must be behind the front setback on an improved surface.
Under Fontana Municipal Code Title 17 (Zoning), recreational vehicles, travel trailers, fifth-wheels, motorhomes, boats, and utility trailers kept on residential property must be parked behind the required front-yard setback line, typically in the side or rear yard on an improved surface (concrete, pavers, or a permitted RV pad). RVs cannot overhang the sidewalk or public right-of-way. Storing an RV in the required front-yard setback is allowed in limited cases if the vehicle is operable, currently registered, and parked on a paved driveway. On public streets, Fontana applies California Vehicle Code 22651(k) and 22651.5 (noise from auxiliary generators): an RV may park for no more than 72 consecutive hours before being subject to tow, and living in the vehicle while it is parked on the street is prohibited under FMC nuisance rules. Loading and unloading of a recreational vehicle in front of the owner's home is permitted for a limited window (typically 24 to 72 hours) for the purpose of loading the RV for a trip. Fontana does not currently issue special RV loading permits; loading must occur within the FMC-permitted window. Commercial RV and boat storage lots in Fontana operate under CUPs.
Code Enforcement issues a warning followed by an administrative citation (typically $100 first, $200 second, $500 subsequent) for RVs stored in the front yard or on the street beyond the loading window. Repeated violations can trigger abatement and tow.
