San Bernardino, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

The San Bernardino Municipal Code places restrictions on recreational vehicle, boat, and trailer parking both on public streets and on private residential property. On the street, recreational vehicles and trailers are subject to the 72-hour rule under California Vehicle Code 22651(k), the same as passenger cars, and permits for extended on-street RV storage are not available in most residential neighborhoods. Loading and unloading for trip preparation is typically allowed for a limited period, often 48 to 72 hours immediately before and after a trip. On private single-family residential property, recreational vehicles and boats must generally be stored in side or rear yards behind the front building line or an approved side gate, screened from public view by a solid fence or landscaping at least 6 feet tall. Parking an RV on the front driveway or lawn for long-term storage is commonly prohibited in San Bernardino residential zones. A recreational vehicle may be occupied temporarily by guests for short periods per Municipal Code rules but cannot be used as a permanent dwelling on a residential lot. Self-storage yards, licensed RV parks, and marinas provide compliant long-term options. Violations are handled by Code Enforcement and can result in citations, abatement, and vehicle tow. Larger commercial vehicles and big rigs have additional restrictions under the commercial vehicle parking ordinance and CVC 22507.5. HOA communities in the foothills and CalState areas often layer additional CC and Rs restrictions on top of city rules.
