Ontario Municipal Code Sec. 4-13.04 prohibits parking or storing commercial vehicles over 10,000 lb GVWR (11,500 lb for pickups), and any motor truck, truck tractor, or trailer regardless of weight, on lots in residential zoning districts. Limited loading/unloading and on-site work exceptions apply for short durations.
Commercial-vehicle parking in residential areas is restricted under the Off-Street Parking chapter, Sec. 4-13.04. It is unlawful for the driver, owner, or operator of any commercial vehicle that exceeds a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds (11,500-pound GVWR for pickup trucks), or any motor truck, truck tractor or trailer, or any other commercial equipment regardless of weight, to park or store that vehicle on any lot within a residential zoning district, a residential land-use district of a specific plan or planned unit development, or any other property zoned or used for residential purposes. The ordinance allows narrow exceptions for active loading and unloading of goods, emergency services, emergency repairs, or on-site construction, generally limited to a period not exceeding three hours within any consecutive 24-hour period. On public streets, commercial vehicles remain subject to the citywide 72-hour limit (Sec. 4-6.1011) and posted truck-route and no-parking restrictions.
Parking or storing a covered commercial vehicle on residential property in violation of Sec. 4-13.04 is a code violation enforced by the City's Community Improvement / Code Enforcement division and may result in notices of violation, administrative citations, and abatement. Commercial vehicles on public streets are also subject to the 72-hour rule and may be cited or towed.
