Brockton, MA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Brockton's general parking prohibitions sit in Article IV of Chapter 12, Section 12-71. The rule blocks standing or parking within an intersection, upon a sidewalk, upon a crosswalk, or on a roadway in a rural or sparsely settled district. Where curbside parking is allowed, both wheels on the right side of the vehicle must sit within twelve inches of the curb or roadway edge; on one-way streets, vehicles must park facing the direction of travel with both wheels within that same twelve-inch band, unless the block is marked for angle parking.

A car cannot occupy space that leaves less than a ten-foot clear lane for passing traffic, cannot sit within ten feet of a fire hydrant, cannot block or sit in front of a private road, driveway or walk, and cannot park within twenty feet of an intersecting way, alleys excepted. Section 12-72 lets the police chief impose temporary parking bans on any street during an emergency, lawful assembly, demonstration or procession, and any vehicle left in a temporarily posted no-parking zone may be moved by or under an officer's direction.

Section 12-5 makes the registered owner prima facie responsible for a parking violation when the driver cannot be identified. Emergency vehicle operators and public works crews performing emergency work are exempted under Section 12-6, though that exemption does not excuse reckless disregard for public safety.
