On unincorporated county roads, Imperial County Code Section 10.24.010 sets the basic street-parking rules: park parallel and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb or road boundary, and do not leave a vehicle standing for 72 or more consecutive hours. State Vehicle Code rules on prohibited locations also apply.
Street parking on county-maintained roads in the unincorporated area is governed by Title 10, Chapter 10.24 of the Imperial County Code. Section 10.24.010 requires that any vehicle stopped, parked or left standing on a county road be parallel to and not more than 18 inches from the right-hand curb, or, where there is no curb, from the extreme right-hand boundary of the roadway. The same section prohibits leaving a vehicle on a county road, public street or highway for 72 or more consecutive hours; it exempts commercial vehicles actively loading or unloading passengers or merchandise, and stops made to avoid traffic conflicts or to comply with law-enforcement directions or a traffic-control device. Beyond these county rules, the California Vehicle Code governs where parking is flatly prohibited: Vehicle Code Section 22500 forbids stopping in front of driveways, on sidewalks, in crosswalks and intersections, and where a vehicle would obstruct an excavation or traffic. Curb-color restrictions follow Vehicle Code Section 21458 once the county marks them. Ordinance No. 1443 (adopted January 13, 2009) updated the county's vehicle-parking regulations at Sections 10.24.030 and 10.24.035.
Parking more than 18 inches from the curb or boundary, or leaving a vehicle on a county road for 72 or more consecutive hours, violates Section 10.24.010 and can lead to citation and removal by the CHP or a sheriff's deputy. Parking in a location prohibited by Vehicle Code Section 22500 (driveways, crosswalks, sidewalks, etc.) is separately enforceable.
