Sutter County Code Chapter 1120 adopts the state Vehicle Code's stopping and parking prohibitions (CVC 22500 and 22500.1) on county roads and lets the Board of Supervisors post additional no-parking zones by resolution. Most street-parking violations carry a $25 civil parking penalty.
Sutter County Ordinance Code Section 1120-020 prohibits stopping, standing, or parking in any of the places listed in California Vehicle Code Sections 22500 and 22500.1 (sidewalks, crosswalks, fire lanes, in front of driveways, etc.). Under Section 1120-100, the Board of Supervisors may prohibit or restrict parking on specific portions of county roadways by resolution pursuant to CVC Section 22507; restrictions take effect only after signs are posted or curbs are marked under CVC Section 21458. Section 1120-060 also bans parking a vehicle on any roadway principally to display it for sale or to repair it (except emergency repairs not exceeding 24 hours), and Section 1120-105 lets the county restrict parking in county-owned lots with permits, time limits, and designated spaces. Parking in county lots outside marked spaces or contrary to posted restrictions can result in citation and removal under CVC Section 22651.
Section 1120-110 sets civil parking penalties: $25 for prohibited or restricted parking under Sections 1120-100 and 1120-105, $50 for fire lane violations (CVC 22500.1), $250 for blocking wheelchair access (CVC 22500), $50 for parking at a fire hydrant (CVC 22514), $25 for parallel parking violations (CVC 22502), and $275 for disabled parking violations. Vehicles parked in violation in county lots may be towed at the owner's expense.
