Erie County, NY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1660, town boards have the authority to prohibit, restrict, or limit stopping, standing, and parking on highways outside villages, including county roads that run through the town. Cities like Buffalo and villages set their own parking codes. State law also applies everywhere: V&T Law Section 1201 governs stopping outside business or residence districts, and Section 1202 lists places where parking is always prohibited (near hydrants, crosswalks, intersections). The Erie County Department of Public Works designs and maintains county roads and bridges but does not issue on-street parking tickets.
