Erie County, NY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Parking on public streets in Erie County, New York is regulated almost entirely at the town, village, and city level. The Erie County Legislature has not enacted a county-wide street-parking ordinance, and NY Vehicle & Traffic Law §1640 / §1660 delegate local traffic-control authority to municipalities. The only county-level parking restrictions appear in the Erie County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Park Rules, which apply on the road network inside the county park system (including Chestnut Ridge Park, Como Lake Park, Ellicott Creek Park, Sprague Brook Park, Akron Falls Park, Emery Park, and others). The Park Rules state: "NO parking more than 5 feet off roads or where prohibited by sign. Driving off roadways is prohibited." Park-area speed is capped at 15 mph. Campsite occupants are limited to 2 vehicles per site; any additional vehicles must use the visitor parking area. For parking issues on town or county roads outside park property, refer to the local town code (e.g. Town of Amherst, Town of Clarence Local Law No. 2 for the winter parking ban, Town of Hamburg, etc.).
