Georgetown County, SC Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Georgetown County Code § 13.8-135.1 bars parking in any manner that interferes with vehicular, pedestrian, bikeway or emergency traffic on a street, highway, publicly owned property, parking facility, bikeway, crosswalk, sidewalk or driveway, whether or not emergency crews are actively responding. Parking on the left-hand side of a street so the vehicle's front faces oncoming traffic is a separate violation, as is parking in a posted no-parking or reserved space, parking in a handicap space without the required plate, placard or hangtag, leaving a vehicle unattended without stopping the engine and removing the key, and stopping or standing within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

The Georgetown County Sheriff enforces this division within the county, and the Georgetown County Summary Court administers collection and court appearances under § 13.8-135.3. Under § 13.8-135.2, a violation draws a parking ticket summons and a $50.00 fine; a summons unpaid 30 days past the court date adds a $100.00 administration fee. A vehicle that accumulates more than three unpaid summonses at any time is declared a public nuisance and may be immobilized with a wheel immobilizer or towed, adding an immediate $200.00 fine, plus any private towing and storage charges, before the vehicle is released.

Damaging a county wheel immobilizer carries its own liability and possible criminal charges. The Sheriff may issue a warning summons with no fine or court date where practicable to raise awareness of the ordinance.
