Santa Cruz County uses colored curb markings and signage to set parking restrictions on unincorporated streets, mirroring California Vehicle Code conventions for red, green, and blue zones.
Under Santa Cruz County Code (SCCC) Chapter 9.36, when authorized curb markings or signs have been determined by the Director of the Department of Public Works to be necessary and are in place, no operator of any motor vehicle shall stop, stand, or park such vehicle in violation of the marked restriction. Red curbs prohibit stopping, standing, or parking (except buses in marked bus zones). Green curbs allow parking for a maximum of 20 minutes unless a different posted time limit applies. Blue curbs are reserved exclusively for vehicles displaying a disabled person license plate or placard under CVC Section 22511.5, or for disabled veterans under CVC Section 9105. The County also adopts the California Vehicle Code by reference for general on-street parking rules in the unincorporated area.
Vehicles in violation may receive a parking citation under SCCC Chapter 9.36 and the California Vehicle Code. Vehicles obstructing traffic, blocking driveways, or otherwise parked in violation may be towed at the owner's expense by the Sheriff or CHP under CVC Section 22651.
