Article 6 of Chapter 20 lays out South Bend's baseline on-street parking rules. Section 20-67(a) makes it unlawful to park in any area posted as a no-parking zone, a time-limited zone, or an hour-restricted zone, once the City has placed the appropriate sign or pavement marking. Section 20-67(b) closes the loophole of moving a car down the block: within any rolling 24-hour period, a vehicle cannot be parked at one location, or a combination of locations in the same block, for longer than the posted time limit.

Section 20-72(a) requires that every parked vehicle sit parallel to the curb and no more than 12 inches from it, unless the chapter or street markings direct a different parking method; motorcycles get a narrower exception under § 20-72(b) letting them park rear-wheel to the curb. Section 20-73 requires the vehicle's right side to face the curb, meaning drivers cannot pull across the street and park facing the wrong way against traffic, except on designated one-way streets.
