St. Michael Code Sec. 71.04 prohibits parking on any public street for a continuous period exceeding 48 hours. A vehicle moved less than one block within a 48-hour period is deemed to have remained stationary.
Chapter 71 (Parking Regulations) sets the citywide street-parking rule. Sec. 71.04 caps continuous street parking at 48 hours so the city can sweep, plow, and prevent abandoned-vehicle accumulations. The 'less than one block' rule prevents owners from cheating by inching a vehicle forward. Sec. 71.04 also makes it unlawful to remove any chalk mark or warning sign placed by a deputy to measure how long a vehicle has been parked. Beginning November 1 through April 1, an additional overnight parking ban applies on all city streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. (winter parking ban). During snow events of 2 inches or more, no-parking is automatically enforced day or night until plowing is complete.
Violations are charged under Sec. 71.99 with the city general penalty in Sec. 10.99 โ misdemeanor, up to $1,000 fine and/or 90 days. Vehicles left in violation may be tagged and towed at the owner's expense.
