St. Michael Code Sec. 155.039's exterior-storage limit exempts off-street parking of passenger vehicles and trucks up to 12,000 lbs gross vehicle weight from screening requirements. Heavier commercial vehicles, semi-tractors, and trailers cannot be regularly parked on residential property.
Sec. 155.039 is the zoning code's screening-and-storage standard. Light vehicles (passenger cars, pickups, vans, SUVs) and trucks not over 12,000 lbs may be parked on a residential driveway or off-street pad without screening. Anything heavier β semi-tractors, dump trucks, box trucks over 12,000 lbs, and commercial trailers β falls under the 'materials and equipment' general-storage rule and must be stored inside a building or fully screened in the rear yard. Street parking of any vehicle is also subject to the 48-hour Sec. 71.04 rule and the winter overnight ban. Commercial vehicles connected to a permitted home occupation must comply with the home-occupation conditions in the zoning code.
Parking a vehicle over 12,000 lbs on a residential lot in view of neighbors is a zoning/nuisance violation under Sec. 91.18 β misdemeanor with up to $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail under Sec. 10.99.
