Walton County, GA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 7-1-100(D) is Walton County's general on-street stopping-and-standing rule inside the Land Development Ordinance's parking article. 1 bars any person from stopping, standing or parking a vehicle at a place prohibited by ordinance and marked with official signs or pavement markings, carving out only the narrow exceptions of avoiding a conflict with other traffic, complying with law, or following a law enforcement officer's or traffic control device's direction. 2 adds a second, county-specific layer: no one may stop, stand or park at any location the Board of Commissioners has specifically designated, again identified through official signs or markings.

Because the rule is sign-dependent, the practical restriction, whether that is a fire hydrant zone, a curb painted for sight distance at an intersection, or a stretch the Board has posted for another reason, is established location by location rather than in one master list in the ordinance text. Enforcement runs through the same channel as the rest of Article 7: the Sheriff's Office and code enforcement can cite a vehicle parked in violation of posted signage, and the underlying Land Development Ordinance penalty provisions apply to a conviction.
