Summary
On unincorporated county roads, you must park within 12 inches of the right curb (parallel), and cannot stop in intersections, crosswalks, sidewalks, bike lanes, or within 50 feet of an intersection on a county road.
No person shall park any vehicle on the roadway within fifty (50) feet of any intersection on a county road. As used in herein the term "county road" has the same meaning as provided in the Polk County Land Development Code.(c)Park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except temporarily for the purpose of, and while actually engaged in, loading or unloading merchandise or passengers:1.Within fifty (50) feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing unless a different distance is established due to unusual circumstances.2.At any place where official signs prohibit parking.(2)No person shall move a vehicle not lawfully under his control into any such prohibited area or away from a curb such a distance as is unlawful. Polk County Code Sec. 10.3-17 lists where you may not stop, stand or park: on sidewalks, within intersections or crosswalks, on bike paths, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a stop sign or traffic signal, and within 50 feet of an intersection on a county road. Sec. 10.3-18 requires parallel parking with the right wheels within 12 inches of the curb or road edge. A separate mailbox rule (below) also applies on county roads.
